Zwift MiniPC 4K w/ 55” TV Setup - 2024

I wanted to have a better experience than just using Zwift on my Android phone and casting to my TV. I'd been doing this for the past 2 years and it was okay. I like Zwift and ride 4 times a week. So I thought I’d share my 2024 Zwift Mini PC upgrade setup. I did quite a bit of research to come up with what I thought was a medium priced immersive experience, to keep me riding regularly. My goal was to have a riding setup that didn’t look like a computer closet in our master bedroom, but when I was riding felt realistic.

Now I have a much more immersive experience and riding with Zwift in 4K is just awesome. I never new how much detail (shadows, animal expressions, and other riders) was built into it. I have not experienced any frame drops or laginess. Even on group rides with lots of other riders, things just work. I’m never going back. Hoping my setup helps you figure out something that works for you.

Current bike setup for 2 years:

The keyboard and mouse under the TV aren't needed. I just had them there when I was getting Windows 11 all set up. The minpc has a small power brick and plugs into the older Vixio TV using an HDMI cable. I can set Zwift on the highest resolution and get no frame dropouts or lags. The Mini PC has lights on the front, than can be shut off. I've found I like the lights on, so I know when it's running (most of the time it's off). When running Zwift the cooling fans are quiet enough not to be noticed, but keep air flowing through the minipc.

Outdoor Temperature - Waiting for Update Honeywell WiFI Thermostat (RTH9580WF)

Just bought my wife a new thermostat for our house. We missed the HAI home automation thermostats in our previous house and their ability to display outdoor temperature. The NEST removed too much of our ability to control our thermostat and didn't show outdoor weather conditions. We choose the Honeywell RTH9580WF  (from Amazon) for a few reasons: RTH9580WF Outdoor Temperature - shows waiting for update Pros: Ability to control from a remotely Easy WiFi connectivity Reliable thermostat company Good 4 star plus reviews from Amazon Ability to show outdoor temperature and humidity Easy to use touchscreen and nice design Cons: C wire required No external temperature sensor Replacing  our existing heat pump thermostat was uneventful. Comcast Xfinity HD uDTA Pace DC60Xu Unboxing and Setup Instructions

Today I picked up two Comcast Xfinity uDTA (HD Digital Transport Adapters). These are the latest DTA's from Comcast that allow you to view HDTV using a tiny cable box as opposed to the huge boxes. They also have the advantage of being much less expensive to rent than the settop boxes. In my area they are easily exchanged for the for the original Thompson DTA's ( http://blog.trebacz.com/2010/03/comcast-dta-digital-transport-adapter.html ) from a couple years ago.
